Skin Needling Sunshine Coast
When we are young we enjoy smooth, tight and soft skin that holds firmly in place. Children’s youthful skin is full of collagen, but unfortunately for adults, the production of collagen starts to slow down with age, leaving the skin with less structure. Most people start seeing looser skin and some wrinkles by the time they reach their late 30s.
In your 40s and beyond, you can expect to see significant changes in the tightness and overall appearance of your skin.
Skin changes are a natural aging process and the best way to turn back the clock is the generation of new skin cells. This is only possible through the body natural healing processes. When the skin begins to heal itself from an injury, it starts producing more collagen and creating fresh cells.
It then begins to look and feel more like it did when you were a teenager.
What is skin needling?
Also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), it is a skin rejuvenation treatment that helps to restore collagen and elastin through a natural healing process. 12 ultra fine, medical grade needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury that induces a wound healing response stimulating new collagen and elastin production. New collagen and elastin improve skin quality and texture, making the skin feel firmer and smoother and can help repair acne scars and fine wrinkles.
Skin needling also helps repair stretch marks and surgical scars, pigmentation, acne pore size & uneven tone. New collagen and elastin production is the goal of all skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments. Once initiated, new collagen production can continue for up to 12 months, resulting in an improvement in skin firmness and texture and a softening and lifting of scars and wrinkles.
Skin needling treatments are performed 4-8 weeks apart and usually, multiple sessions are needed to achieve the desired result. Skin needling doesn’t create immediate results and there is a small recovery period following the treatment. For 24-48 hours after, the skin will have a slight red hue, similar to mild sunburn.
The redness is caused by inflammation of the skin from the needles puncture wounds. There may be small pinprick bleeding during the needling treatment but this has usually stopped by the time your session has finished. Because skin needling involves minimal downtime it can be the perfect alternative for those who don’t have time for more intensive laser/ resurfacing treatments.
This procedure isn’t meant to have immediate results as the body needs time to heal and form a new skin in those damaged areas. It can take weeks to months to see full results as the collagen production is a slower process.
What to expect from a skin needling treatment?
This treatment can be done with or without numbing cream. After a thorough consultation to determine your skin concerns and results you are after your technician will give your skin a good cleanse and apply numbing (if requested). You can expect your treatment to last no more than an hour, though treatment times can vary depending on the size of the area and the skin condition being treated.
During the needling, a hyaluronic serum will be used to infuse into the skin. Hyaluronic acid is renowned for its ability to retain moisture and has the ability to instantly plump skin and smooth wrinkles, as well as helping skin to repair itself more quickly. Its barrier-repairing function means that it can help our skin to protect itself against sun damage, superficial wounds, and inflammation.
Depending on the skin conditions you are trying to treat other serums may be mixed in as well. Because the micro-needles create millions of fine channels in the skin when being pierced, these channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients, allowing for deeper delivery of products into the skin.
